There is no time Chemist business was as booming as the period between 2020 and 2021.This is one business which will guarantee over 100% return on your investment.

Until recently, I wasn’t sure how chemists were making money out of an ignorant population. I later came to understand that chemists don’t have fixed prices for the drugs they sell. Do your research and you will confirm that drugs do not bear same price across chemists in the country.

The best thing about operating a chemist in Kenya is that you are the one who determines how much you charge your customers. Imagine you can buy a certain drug at Ksh.200 and sell it at Ksh.800.

Our survey shows that individuals who run chemists in Nairobi make at least Ksh.3,000 per day-this is minimum profit you make in a single day. 

Of course anyone can start a chemist but it would need some collaboration with a registered nurse or pharmacist. So if you have money, at least Ksh.1 million you want to start a chemist with, look for a pharmacist, who will help you get a license for the business. You will register the business as a partnership formation.

I understand, Nursing is one of the worst paying careers in Kenya especially if you are employed by the government, but you can turn the misfortunes of the career into wealth by being innovative. Nursing is actually one of the best careers in Kenya, and this is the real reason.

The moment you are admitted to KMTC for diploma course or local universities for undergraduate course, you should plan on how to become an entrepreneur. Doing this will help you set your mind on how to look for capital to start your own business. 

After doing that, ensure you specialize on areas that are marketable in Kenya, such areas include becoming a dentist or anesthetist or medical surgery.

Once you have mapped out the best and most rewarding areas of specialization, then rule out employment and start a journey of self-employment. At this point, you should come up with a strategy of the best business to set up in Kenya and which area best suits your business.

Now, you have graduated with a diploma or degree in nursing, something that no one can snatch from you. Since this is a unique profession, not everyone is allowed to start a chemist in Kenya. This business requires someone who has skills and a certificate from a recognized institution.

Our survey shows that individuals who run chemists in Nairobi make at least Ksh.3,000 per day-this is minimum profit you make in a single day. The government pays a nurse Ksh.28,000 to Ksh.45,000 per month, which is way below what you can make if you run a chemist.

To start a chemist in Nairobi, you require Ksh.500,000 to Ksh.1.5 million.

If you manage to become a dentist, you should not allow yourself to be trapped into a cocoon of employees. Please, have your own clinic and you will be surprised how much money you rake from the business. 

Removing a single tooth from a customer costs Ksh.500 to Ksh.5,000. What if you have 5 to 10 clients per day. I know sometimes you can have even 30 of them if you are located in Nairobi or Mombasa.

Ideally, the best thing to do to your life as a nurse is either operate a clinic or run a chemist, but if you decide to be employed, you have no chance of creating wealth.
